The Paradox of Wishes

Have you ever wished or prayed for something and you didn’t receive what you thought you would?

Here’s what can happen.

When we pray for patience, sometimes we expect to get a magic potion that suddenly brings us more patience.

What we get is more opportunities to practice patience.

This means that sometimes, it can seem like you’re getting the opposite of what you asked for.

Patience is a skill that needs to be learned, cultivated and practiced over time.

Patience is learned through…waiting. Over and over again.

Suddenly, the long queue at the grocery store or the inevitable delays become the training ground for cultivating this sought-after quality.

Let’s say you pray for courage.

What do you think you get?

More chances to practice being courageous.

It might be a daunting challenge at work, a personal crisis, or a moment that beckons you to step outside your comfort zone. In these moments, you realize that courage is not a static trait but a skill to be built—one step at a time.

So, the next time you find yourself wishing for a particular virtue or strength, remember the paradox: the universe grants your wish by offering you the chance to build it.

Approach these opportunities with an open heart and a willingness to learn.

Recognize that the journey of personal growth is a series of steps, each contributing to the person you are becoming.

Here are 3 ways to work with me before the end of 2023.
