The C.A.R.E. Method for Nervous System Regulation

Through working with the nervous system for the past 17 years as a chiropractor along with additional training in yoga, meditation, breathwork and nutrition, I’ve created the C.A.R.E. Method for resetting the nervous system.

C.A.R.E. is an acronym for connection, acknowledge, reframe and expand.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

Connection. 

When we want to reset or rewire the nervous system, the first step is to connect to it. Since your nervous system is housed in your body, we’re connecting to your body. 

You connect by placing your hands on an area of your body that has tension, discomfort, pain or any sensations that you would like to explore further.

When we connect with the body, we do so with presence. There is no shame, guilt, blame, etc. We are not connecting to get rid of something or make it go away. We’re connecting to listen and to understand. 

We want to know why this part of us is trying to get our attention. 

Our body speaks to us through sensations; we need to connect to it to hear what it says.

Acknowledge

The next step of the process is to acknowledge where we currently are.

Acknowledge that we have not been listening to our body and taking care of it. We’ve tried to ignore it, make it go away with medication and even cut it out. This is not bad. All these modalities may be needed. First, we want to know what it’s saying to us.

In this step, we invite all of our parts back into conversation. All of our parts are welcome. It’s like a holiday dinner, we may not like all the parts of ourselves but they can sit down and have a meal together.

We invite our parts that we’ve pushed away, alienated, back to our body so we can become in alignment.

Reframe.

Once whole and aligned. We reframe our experience.

What lessons were learned through it? What else can we make it mean?

We are meaning making machines. Why not choose a belief or meaning that serves us better than the one we gave it? 

We aren’t getting rid of our parts, beliefs, etc. We are creating a new relationship with them. We are reframing them to serve us.

Finally, Expansion.

Once we’ve connected with our body, acknowledged what it has to tell us, and reframed our experience, we move into expansion.

Who do you want to be for yourself, your family, your community, for the world?

What are your desires? What would you like to manifest in this world? For me, for you, for all of us.

How do you want to contribute? 

What do you want people to have said about you when you died?

What do you want to say about yourself when it’s time to leave this life?

Through the C.A.R.E. Method for nervous system regulation, you can reconnect with parts of you that have been isolated, ignored, etc. and bring them into the present with you now. You can let go of beliefs that no longer serve you and then expand into the allness of who you can become.
